A major new development in downtown Midland was approved by the Midland City Council Monday night as part of its consent agenda.
No one from the council or public asked for the item to be discussed separately, so the council approved the site plan for Midland Downtown Partners’ proposed 224,255-square-foot, four story building within the meetings opening minutes.
It would have frontage on Main and State streets and it would house offices, restaurants, a wellness center and medical offices. It spreads over 5.72 acres at 215 State St., 608 E. Ellsworth, 614 E. Larkin St. and 709 E. Larkin St.
The site plan submitted by the developers is the first to test the city’s new downtown overlay zoning district, and the Midland Planning Commission expects to tweak some of the requirements to accommodate a larger facility than was expected.
